Website Terms of Use

These Website Terms of Use explain the rules for using the Innovation Forum × R1X hackathon microsite. Please read them carefully before you use the site.

This is a DRAFT template prepared for legal review. It is not legal advice.

1. Introduction and acceptance

These terms of use (the Terms) govern your access to and use of the Innovation Forum × R1X hackathon microsite (the Site), together with any content, features and functionality it makes available.

The Site does not include the participant workspace at https://if-hackathon-workspace.pages.dev. That is a separate, sign-in-only service for people taking part in an event; your use of it is governed by our Participant Terms and its own Workspace Privacy Notice rather than by these Terms.

By accessing or using the Site, you confirm that you accept these Terms and that you agree to comply with them. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Site.

We recommend that you print or save a copy of these Terms for your records.

These Terms should be read together with the following documents, which are incorporated by reference:

  • our Privacy Policy;
  • our Cookie Policy;
  • our Participant Terms; and
  • where you register to take part, our Participant Privacy Notice.
  • where you sign in to the participant workspace, our Workspace Privacy Notice.

If there is any conflict between these Terms and any of the documents listed above in relation to the subject matter of that document, the more specific document will take precedence.

We may revise these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law, in best practice, or in how the hackathon or the Site operates. The version and effective date of the current Terms are shown as [VERSION] and [EFFECTIVE DATE].

Every time you wish to use the Site, please check these Terms to ensure you understand the terms that apply at that time.

4. Accessing the Site

The Site is hosted as a microsite at r1x.co.uk/public_hackathon/ and includes, among other pages, the home page, the challenges pages (/challenges), the registration page (/apply), the insights and articles pages (/insights) and the sponsorship page (/sponsorship).

Access to the Site is provided free of charge and on an informational and event-registration basis. Entry to the hackathon is free. The Site does not sell goods or services and does not take payments.

We do not guarantee that the Site, or any content on it, will always be available or be uninterrupted. Access to the Site is permitted on a temporary basis. We may suspend, withdraw or restrict the availability of all or any part of the Site for business and operational reasons.

You are responsible for making all arrangements necessary for you to have access to the Site. 5. Acceptable use and prohibited uses

You may use the Site only for lawful purposes. You may not use the Site:

  • in any way that breaches any applicable local, national or international law or regulation;
  • in any way that is unlawful or fraudulent, or has any unlawful or fraudulent purpose or effect;
  • to gain, or attempt to gain, unauthorised access to the Site, the server on which the Site is stored, or any server, computer or database connected to the Site. Such conduct may constitute a criminal offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990, and we will report any such breach to the relevant law enforcement authorities and co-operate with them;
  • to scrape, harvest, extract or otherwise collect data from the Site by automated means without our prior written consent. The Site operates a robots policy that is intended to block AI crawlers and automated scraper bots, and you must respect that policy;
  • to knowingly introduce viruses, trojans, worms, logic bombs or other material that is malicious or technologically harmful, or to attempt to do so;
  • to attack the Site via a denial-of-service attack or a distributed denial-of-service attack; or
  • to reproduce, duplicate, copy or re-sell any part of the Site in breach of these Terms.

We may take such action as we deem appropriate, including reporting you to relevant authorities and withdrawing your right to use the Site, in the event of a breach of this section.

6. Intellectual property rights

All content on the Site, including all text, graphics, layout, design, the "Innovation Forum × R1X" branding, logos and the look and feel of the Site, is owned by or licensed to Global Innovation Forum Limited and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws, including the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.

  • reproduce, distribute, modify, republish, or create derivative works from any content on the Site except as expressly permitted by these Terms or with our prior written consent;
  • use any of our trade marks, logos or branding without our prior written permission; or
  • remove or alter any copyright, trade mark or other proprietary notices.

The Site refers to open and public datasets provided by third parties. Those datasets are the property of, and are made available under licences granted by, their respective owners. Your use of any such dataset is subject to that dataset's own licence terms, and you are responsible for reviewing and complying with them. We make no representation or warranty as to your right to use any third-party dataset.

7. Information you submit to us

If you register to take part in the hackathon, you will submit certain information through a registration form (such as your name, email address and challenge choice). That form submits to our third-party service provider, HubSpot.

Any personal data you submit through the Site is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and, where you register, our Participant Privacy Notice. Please read those documents to understand how we collect, use and protect your personal data.

You are responsible for ensuring that any information you submit through the Site is accurate, up to date and not misleading.

The Site may contain links to other sites and resources provided by third parties, including our form provider (HubSpot) and the sources of any open or public datasets referenced on the Site. These links are provided for your information only. We have no control over the contents of those sites or resources.

The inclusion of any link does not imply endorsement by us of the linked site or resource. We accept no responsibility for the content of third-party sites or resources, or for any loss or damage that may arise from your use of them. Your use of any third-party site or resource is subject to that third party's own terms and privacy arrangements.

9. No reliance on information

The content on the Site is provided for general information only. It is not intended to amount to advice on which you should rely.

Details of the hackathon, including its challenges, dates, eligibility, format and prizes (if any), are subject to change. Although we make reasonable efforts to update the information on the Site, we make no representations, warranties or guarantees, whether express or implied, that the content on the Site is accurate, complete or up to date.

10. Our liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or the negligence of our employees, agents or subcontractors, and for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Subject to the paragraph above, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all implied conditions, warranties, representations or other terms that may apply to the Site or any content on it.

We will not be liable to you for any loss or damage, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise, even if foreseeable, arising under or in connection with:

  • your use of, or inability to use, the Site; or
  • your use of or reliance on any content displayed on the Site.

Because the Site is provided free of charge and for informational and event-registration purposes only, we do not accept liability for any business losses. Any liability we may have is limited accordingly. Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights.

11. Indemnity

[CONFIRM if needed] You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from and against any losses, damages, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in connection with your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Site. [This clause is optional for a free informational site and should be reviewed and confirmed or removed by legal review.]

12. Privacy and cookies

Your use of the Site is also governed by our Privacy Policy and our Cookie Policy, which explain how we use personal data and cookies and similar technologies. Please refer to those documents for further information.

13. Viruses and security

We do not guarantee that the Site will be secure or free from bugs or viruses. You are responsible for configuring your information technology, computer programmes and platform to access the Site, and you should use your own virus protection software.

You must not misuse the Site by knowingly introducing material that is malicious or technologically harmful. You must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site, the server on which the Site is stored, or any server, computer or database connected to the Site, as set out in section 5.

14. Applicable law and jurisdiction

These Terms, their subject matter and their formation (and any non-contractual disputes or claims) are governed by the law of England and Wales.

You and we both agree that the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with these Terms or their subject matter or formation.

Notices under these Terms should be sent to Future Business Centre, Kings Hedges Rd, Cambridge, CB4 2HY, United Kingdom.
